The New Avengers: A crowd of screaming teenagers rescues a man Steed has hunted down, but then the Soviet spymaster Perov appears to kill himself. Just days later, a network of sleeper agents set up by Perov, called the House of Cards, is activated: people believed to be on Steed's side suddenly turn into assassins, killing British intelligence personnel. The attacks are set off by an embedded hynotic order which is triggered by half of a playing card. Steed, Purdey and Gambit find themselves fighting people they thought were their friends.
